5 Traits, 5 Challenges

IMG_5093Why is it called “Share5″?

Share5 is based on the 5 character traits of compassion, sacrifice, passion, teamwork, and leadership so readily evident in Christ. When approached in this order, each can be used as a natural building block to the next.

At the core of Share5 is a desire to see people live out a biblical principle that calls us to “love in action and in truth.” Through 5 associated challenges, we urge you to lovingly engage your neighbor and your community, and to realize that you can make a difference in the world.

Compassion – a sympathetic consciousness of others’ distress together with a desire to alleviate it.

Challenge – Share “5 minutes” of your day, at least once a week, with someone you otherwise would not have considered or noticed.

Sacrifice – a.) an act of offering to a deity something precious; especially the killing of a victim on an altar.  b.) the destruction or surrender of something for the sake of something else.

Challenge – Share “5 hours” once a month with your community or those around you, giving of yourself in a way beyond a simple conversation.

Passion – a.) the sufferings of Christ between the night of the Last Supper and His death. b.) intense, driving, or overmastering feeling or conviction.  c.) intense emotion compelling action

Challenge – Share “5 days” at least once a year either discovering your passion or diving deeper into it.  Give yourself the gift of dedicated time where you can fully participate in something you are passionate about.  For an example of what 5 days could do, see our UthBuild projects

Teamwork - work done by several associates with each doing a part, but all subordinating personal prominence to the efficiency of the whole. (emphasis added)

Challenge – Share “5 dollars” or more monthly as you join with others in using our collective resources to extend opportunity to the less fortunate.  Working together to fund various international projects for the poor we develop an understanding of our ability to impact our “neighbors” in other nations.   Set up your $5 monthly contribution now!

Leadership – the act of leading by a person who has commanding authority or influence; the process of influencing others to accomplish an objective.

Challenge – Share your stories with “5 people”, and encourage them to participate as well.  Use your own Share5 challenge experiences to motivate and encourage those you are leading.
